The Plymouth Community United Way started collecting hats at the beginning of October for the ‘Hats for the Homeless’ program that ended on Nov. 30.

Overall, approximately 1,400 items were donated for men, women and children. Items were a combination of store-bought and homemade goods. Donors included, but are not limited to, Iron Mountain, Conway Express, Allen Elementary, C.L. Finlan, Bird Elementary Girl Scouts, Plymouth Community Council on Aging, Lions Club Colonial Plymouth, Novi Girl Scout Troop 42139 and countless individuals.

All donations collected will be given to homeless people in need of warmth this winter. For more information about the program or if you are interested in collecting winter accessories at your school, office or organization in the fall of 2011, please contact Krista Strobel at (734) 453-6879 ext. 6.
